The Craft – Collector’s Edition 4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray Review

Share

I was very excited to watch the 4K Blu-ray for The Craft, as I love its embrace of the misfit and outsider spirit. For those not in the know, The Craft is a 1996 movie that follows a coven of four outcast high school girls who practice witchcraft and dabble in the dark arts. They gain newfound power and popularity, but soon their spells turn dangerous and the consequences of their actions catch up to them. The girls in the coven are rebels, not conforming to societal norms or expectations. The film also explores themes of female friendship, revenge, and the consequences of using power for personal gain. And let’s not forget the amazing soundtrack and fashion, total goth goals. Overall, it’s a dark and thrilling tale that I can relate to deeply.

And let’s talk about Fairuza Balk! Her portrayal of Nancy, the leader of the coven as a complex and mysterious character who embodies the goth aesthetic perfectly with her all-black outfits, choker necklaces, and dark lipstick. She’s unapologetically herself and doesn’t shy away from her unconventional beliefs and interests in the occult.

Fairuza Balk’s performance is intense and captivating, bringing an edge and power to Nancy that inspires me to embrace my own individuality. Her character also shows the dark side of using magic for personal gain and the importance of accepting responsibility for one’s actions.

The 4K resolution provides a much sharper and more detailed picture, allowing viewers to fully appreciate the film’s iconic cinematography and visual style. The 4K version also includes a remastered soundtrack, which provides a more immersive viewing experience and enhances the film’s suspenseful and atmospheric score.

The special features on The Craft Collector’s Edition Blu-ray are excellent because they delve deeper into the making of the film and the cultural impact it has had since its release.

Some of my favorite special features include:

  • Behind-the-scenes footage and interviews with the cast and crew
  • A retrospective of the film’s legacy and its impact on the genre
  • A discussion of the film’s themes and its relevance to modern audiences
  • A showcase of the film’s iconic fashion and style
  • Deleted scenes and alternate takes provide additional insight into the characters and story.

But it’s the featurette “The Craft: Cult Classic” which includes new interviews with the filmmakers and cast, exploring the film’s journey from production to pop culture phenomenon, that is one of the most exciting and insightful special features for fans of the film. This featurette provides a comprehensive look at the film’s impact and legacy, making it a must-watch for fans.

The 4K version of The Craft is a significant upgrade from the previous Blu-ray and DVD releases and is highly recommended for fans of the film and for those who want to experience the film in its best possible quality. The visual and audio upgrades make it a worthwhile investment for fans looking to revisit or discover the film for the first time!
