Fantastic More… or Less?

Share

Meh. Somehow it was less painful than the original, probably because it didn’t even try as hard. Good enough pacing, only two really painful scenes, and a surprisingly strong take on the Surfer and his effects. But sheezus, the effects on Mr. Fantastic were embarrassing.

Overall: B. Is it a credit to say it wasn’t nearly as bad as I expected??

Alba suffered from Dunst Syndrome in this.  I don’t remember her being nearly as unlikable in the first.  And aren’t we passed characters saying things like “my bad” at this point?  I know i’ll catch flack for this, but i enjoyed the first one more.  The surfer did not need LF’s voice “talent.” I felt it was a distracting element to a potentially cool character.  And yes, those effects were anything but fantastic.  I didn’t hate it though.  But yeah.  No DVD for me.

I haven’t seen it yet, but I think I’m going to like it more than the first.  I’ll get back to ya…

There’s no way I will see this in the theaters, after that first piece of garbage.  I have no idea what this is really about, but expect it to be lots of scenes of people chasing the Silver Surfer around.  Yippeee!  So far, it made $57M this weekend, which all things considered, isn’t very good, so I’m happy that there’s a good chance there will be no FF3 (though Fantastic Four Four, would have been an awesome title) and that this might put the temporary kibosh on a Surfer flick (or at least, the patience to do it right).

Definitely will give it a whirl via Netflix.
