The upcoming film ‘Star Wars: Starfighter’ began its primary photography in the United Kingdom on Thursday. Lucasfilm, to celebrate the event, announced the complete cast.
The movie has introduced new additions who will be featured by Lucasfilm, including Flynn Gray, Aaron Pierre, Simon Bird, Jamael Westman, Daniel Ings, and Amy Adams. Directed by Shawn Levy, Ryan Gosling is the movie’s star. Mia Goth and Matt Smith are already known cast members where they will be seen portraying the antagonists.
Starfighter is a separate movie and doesn’t involve pre-existing Star Wars films or characters that were part of the internationally renowned Skywalker Saga revolving around Luke Skywalker and his father, Anakin. However, one must adhere to the Star Wars timeline, and the events of Starfighter take place about five years post the happenings in Star Wars’ 2019 release: The Rise of Skywalker.
A significant development is Gray’s role, as he is set to shine alongside Gosling in the Star Wars franchise. Penned by Jonathan Tropper, the storyline involving Gosling’s character who protects a young ward from the malevolent beings in an extensive galaxy-trekking journey, is being held secret. Gray was selected after a rigorous process among actors in the US and UK, who had given auditions for several months. Gray has featured in one episode of Wednesday and an Irish criminal series known as Borderline.
An exhaustive search was conducted for the character of a mother with the role seemingly being portrayed by Amy Adams. She previously collaborated with Levy in the 2009 movie, Night at the Museum: Battle for the Smithsonian and starred in the Levy-produced drama, Arrival. Lucasfilm did not disclose the plot or character information during Thursday’s announcement.
The supporting cast predominantly comprises British actors. Bird earned recognition for his performances in The Inbetweeners series and its movie adaptations. Westman was seen alongside Claire Danes in the periodized mini series, The Essex Serpent, while Ings was a key protagonist in Guy Ritchie’s crime series, The Gentlemen.
Pierre, the star of DC Studios’ upcoming show Lanterns, gained fame with the Netflix sensation, Rebel Ridge. He is already a part of the space industry. The movie will be produced by Kathleen Kennedy and Levy. The executive producers will include Gosling, Dan Levine, Mary McLaglen, and Josh McLaglen.
Aiming to be completed by May 28, 2027, Starfighter is all set for a theatre release.
