Amazon MGM Studios is reportedly in discussions to acquire the feature adaptation of the popular video game, “Split Fiction”, starring actress Sydney Sweeney. The film, penned by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, is set to be directed by Jon M. Chu and will detail the adventures of fictional authors Mio and Zoe as they navigate their own world of creations.

– Amazon MGM Studios is reportedly considering the acquisition of the feature adaptation of the video game ‘Split Fiction’, with Sydney Sweeney starring and Jon M. Chu directing.
– The game, which centers around authors trapped in their own creations’ world, has sold four million copies, and was released in March by Hazelight Studios and Electronic Arts.
– Hollywood has shown increasing interest in video game adaptations, with successes such as ‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie’ and ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’, and future adaptations planned including ‘The Legend of Zelda’ and ‘Street Fighter’.


Amazon MGM Studios is currently in negotiations to secure rights for the feature film version of the video game, Split Fiction. The project would star Sydney Sweeney, more casting details are awaited.

Jon M. Chu, known for his directorial expertise, is amongst the key personnel roped in for the project. The responsibility of translating the game’s story into a compelling screenplay lies in the adept hands of Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.

In the realm of production, the expertise of Chu, Mike Goldberg and Dmitri M. Johnson is set to be harnessed. Star of the project, Sydney Sweeney, would be one of the executive producers of the movie adaptation.

The source video game, Split Fiction was launched in March by Hazelight Studios and Electronic Arts. The game storyline revolves around characters Mio and Zoe, struggling and navigating through the world they brought to life with their writing. Sweeney’s character in the film hasn’t been disclosed yet.

Post its debut, Split Fiction garnered positive response from video game lovers. The game managed to attract four million buyers, a milestone celebrated by Hazelight Studios through an Instagram post. The company expressed its joy in seeing the gamers’ fun interactions and exclusive love for the game characters, Mio and Zoe.

The recent success of films like The Super Mario Bros. Movie, the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise and A Minecraft Movie, all based on hit video games, has attracted Hollywood’s interest towards this genre. More such adaptations, like The Legend of Zelda, Street Fighter and Gears of War, are presently in the pipeline. Scheduled for release later this year are Mortal Kombat II and Five Nights at Freddy’s 2.

Sydney Sweeney’s upcoming projects include Apple TV+’s Echo Valley and Lionsgate’s The Housemaid, and she is also expected to star in the film version of the video game OutRun, directed by Michael Bay.
