Krysten Ritter Returns as Jessica Jones in Marvel’s ‘Daredevil: Born Again’
Krysten Ritter is coming back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, reprising her role as Jessica Jones in season two of Marvel Television’s Daredevil: Born Again. Last seen in the acclaimed mid-2010s Netflix series, Ritter’s Jones will once again take up private investigative duties in the ever-expanding MCU, surprising audiences during Disney’s recent upfront presentation.

– Krysten Ritter, known for her role in Netflix’s Jessica Jones, has been announced as a cast member for season two of Marvel’s Daredevil: Born Again, signaling the incorporation of Netflix-era characters into the Disney-dominated Marvel Cinematic Universe.
– Season two of Daredevil: Born Again will follow the season one cliffhanger and Jessica Jones will be amongst the allies Matt Murdock reaches out to for help against crime lord Wilson Fisk and his anti-vigilante task force.
– Marvel Entertainment, now focusing on creating ongoing series with seasons, aims to balance standalone shows with interconnected narratives within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Krysten Ritter is returning to her role as Jessica Jones, reprising the superhero character once again for the second season of Marvel Television’s Daredevil: Born Again, officially marking her entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Ritter’s portrayal of Jones earned immense acclaim during the Netflix run of the Jessica Jones series in the mid-2010s. The series, seen as a milestone in the Netflix-era of Marvel television, gained not only the audience’s approval but also several awards.
Marvel made the casting announcement during Disney’s upfront presentation, where they were proposing to advertisers.
The presentation also gave a glimpse of Wonder Man, the new series that takes a comedic angle on Hollywood, starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Ben Kingsley.
Ritter was revealed as part of the cast alongside the star of Daredevil, Charlie Cox. The addition of Ritter’s character is expected to enhance the appeal of Born Again, which is reintroducing characters and actors from the Netflix-era Marvel shows (not a creation of Marvel Studios) into the MCU.
Born Again has been consistently successful on Disney+, with the season finale numbers surging, according to sources close to the show. The series has also boosted the Netflix seasons, which are now streaming exclusively on Disney+.
Brad Winderbaum, Marvel’s head of television and animation, shared with The Hollywood Reporter that the show had been received as if it was a fourth season and not the first, demonstrating the fixed fan following. Winderbaum expressed that the hugely supportive response from audiences would encourage them to produce the show annually in the future.
Marvel is currently in a phase of reevaluating their television productions, and Daredevil showcases this approach. Earlier, Marvel introduced several limited series featuring well-known stars, without following the typical TV development cycle and even skipping the pilot episode phase. However, they adjusted the course with Daredevil, aligning more closely to the traditional model.
This year is going to be pivotal, with Daredevil leading the way and other shows such as Ironheart, a six-episode series produced by Ryan Coogler launching in June, and Wonder Man, debuting after the shift in the company’s approach to television series.
Marvel now aims to bring out series that have a seasonal approach, with plans to produce one or two live-action series and a couple of animated shows per year. They also intend not to push for the big-name Avengers actors in all their productions.
Winderbaum shared that featuring top-tier names has made it challenging to produce second seasons due to smaller margins. He also stated that the future productions might make room for big names from Avengers for guest appearances.
Striking a perfect balance between individuality and connectivity with the rest of the Marvel Universe remains a challenge. Winderbaum acknowledged that the audience should be able to enjoy these shows independently, yet maintaining continuity with the overall MCU story.
