‘The Mummy’ Revival Brings Back Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz, Directed by Radio Silence
The popular adventure-horror film series The Mummy is preparing a revival with actor Brendan Fraser and actress Rachel Weisz reportedly returning to their original roles. The new entry will be directed by the filmmaking duo known as Radio Silence, under production at Universal Pictures.

This development marks a significant moment for the franchise, which originally launched at Universal in 1999 with Fraser as Rick O’Connell and Weisz as Evelyn Carnahan. The announcement of their involvement indicates a potential continuity with the two first films and suggests a shift away from the 2017 reboot attempt. With Radio Silence attached, the project signals a refreshed creative direction for the legacy series.
According to multiple industry reports, Fraser and Weisz are currently in talks with Universal to reprise their characters for the new movie, tentatively titled The Mummy 4. Radio Silence, comprised of directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, will direct and the screenplay is said to be written by David Coggeshall. Universal has not yet issued an official comment. The project is believed to aim for production in 2026, pending formal agreements and scheduling.
The original 1999 film grossed over $422 million worldwide and was followed by the 2001 sequel The Mummy Returns, which further cemented Fraser and Weisz as a dynamic lead pairing. That film alone earned around $435 million globally. Both films helped establish the modern era of blockbuster-style monster adventures at Universal. By reuniting the original stars, the studio appears to be banking on nostalgic appeal and established chemistry.
Radio Silence is best known for their genre work, including the horror-comedy Ready or Not and recent entries in the Scream franchise. Their attachment suggests a cinematic tone that blends suspense, action and dark humour. While precise details of the storyline remain under wraps, references indicate the new film may disregard elements of the 2008 film The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor and focus instead on connecting directly to the first two entries.

So excited to see Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz back together for this. The original was such a fun adventure, and I’m curious to see what Radio Silence does with it.
