After a stretch of anticipation for Star Trek fans, Paramount+ has at last announced the premiere date for the third season of the Star Trek series Strange New Worlds.

The series, featuring a cast led by Anson Mount in the role of Captain Pike, is set to launch with two initial episodes on Thursday, July 17, on the online streaming platform.

Subsequent to the premiere, fresh episodes will be released every Thursday, culminating with the season finale on Thursday, Sept. 11.

Paramount+ had earlier communicated that the series will continue into a fourth season, which is presently undergoing production in Toronto.

Sharing the screen with Mount are Rebecca Romijn, Ethan Peck, Jess Bush, Christina Chong, Celia Rose Gooding, Melissa Navia, Babs Olusanmokun, and Martin Quinn. Notable guests this season encompass Rhys Darby, Patton Oswalt, Cillian O’Sullivan, Melanie Scrofano, and Carol Kane, reprising her role as the eccentric Lanthanite, Pelia. Paul Wesley also revisits his role as Captain James T. Kirk.

In its third season, the series continues from the cliffhanger of the second season, where the U.S.S. Enterprise crew confronts the hostile alien species, the Gorn. Paramount+ hints at a fresh adversary and guarantees “riveting journeys of belief, obligation, love, humor, and secrets, featuring a mix of genres never previously observed in any Star Trek,” as per Thursday’s announcement.

The series first appeared in 2022 and transpires in the decade preceding the iconic series from the 1960s. It engages a more mainstream television approach, with an emphasis on episodic adventures. This method has been successful in retaining long-standing fans, attracting new followers and earning favorable reviews. Paramount+ claims this series to be the most-viewed Star Trek series, based on views collected in the initial 90 days of release.
