Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema have announced the highly anticipated premiere date for Andy Serkis’ The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum. The film will hit theaters on December 17, 2027. While currently it seems to have the profitable end-of-year spot to itself, competition may arise as other studios firm up their schedules.

The groundbreaking trio behind The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit movie trilogies — Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens — are teaming up once again to produce two entirely new films sprouted from J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth. These films will be launched by the Warner-owned New Line, with Zane Weiner also on board as a producer.

Notably, Andy Serkis is set to direct Gollum and take center stage as the film’s leading character. Walsh and Boyens are crafting the screenplay in collaboration with Phoebe Gittins and Arty Papageorgiou. The director for the second film is yet to be decided.

There’s also great news for the fans of the Evil Dead franchise who have been eagerly waiting. New Line declared on Thursday that another sequel to the illustrious supernatural horror series is underway thanks to the overwhelming success of Evil Dead Rise, which garnered over $147 million in worldwide box office revenue in 2023, without considering inflation.

The upcoming horror film will be co-financed by New Line and Sony Pictures with Souheila Yacoub selected as the lead star. It’s scheduled to be released in North American theaters on July 24, 2026. Yacoub’s representation is conducted by Sugar23.

Renowned franchise regular Rob Tapert will produce the film along with the series creator Sam Raimi, who is a renowned figure in the horror genre. Executing the producer’s role as well will be Romel Adam, Jose Canas, and Lee Cronin, collaborating with the legendary “Ash” Bruce Campbell.

In another exciting release date announcement, Warner Bros. has scheduled October 23, 2026, for the worldwide premiere of M. Night Shyamalan’s film Remain. The supernatural romantic thriller will feature Jake Gyllenhaal in the lead role with Phoebe Dynevor and Ashley Walters. The storyline is an original, and the outcome of a unique collaboration between Shyamalan and the esteemed novelist Nicholas Sparks.

Both Shyamalan and Sparks are independently writing a screenplay and a book, both entitled Remain, based on the same unique love story. Sparks’ novel is expected to be available from October 7, 2025.
