Hiroyuki Sanada and Cosmo Jarvis Return to ‘Shogun’ Season 2
Attention all fans of the hit historical drama “Shogun” – get ready to dust off your kimonos and sharpen your katana swords because Season 2 is officially in the works! After a successful first season, FX has announced that production for the highly anticipated second season will begin in January 2026 in Vancouver. And even better, original stars Hiroyuki Sanada and Cosmo Jarvis will be reprising their roles as Lord Yoshii Toranaga and John Blackthorne.

For those who may have missed the first season, “Shogun” is a captivating series based on the best-selling novel by James Clavell. Set in feudal Japan, it follows the story of English sailor John Blackthorne who becomes a pawn in the political power struggle between rival Japanese warlords. The first season was a critical and commercial success, earning rave reviews for its stunning visuals, gripping storytelling, and stellar performances by Sanada and Jarvis.
But the excitement doesn’t stop there. In addition to returning as the lead stars, Sanada and Jarvis will also be taking on new roles behind the scenes. Sanada, who also served as a producer on the first season, has been promoted to executive producer for Season 2. Meanwhile, Jarvis will be stepping up as a co-executive producer, further showcasing his talent and dedication to the series.
The second season will pick up 10 years after the events of the first, promising to delve even deeper into the complex political landscape of feudal Japan. Fans can expect to see more intense action sequences, dramatic plot twists, and of course, the powerful chemistry between Sanada and Jarvis as their characters navigate through dangerous territory.
With a production start date of January 2026, fans may have to wait a bit longer for the second season to hit their screens. But if the first season is any indication, the wait will be well worth it. In the meantime, fans can catch up on or re-watch the first season to get ready for the highly anticipated return of “Shogun.”
