Vintage 1978 Star Wars Spoiler from David Prowse

Share

David Prowse, the man who played Darth Vader in the original Star Wars trilogy, told a 1978 crowd in Berkeley, California that Darth Vader was Luke’s father! This was two years before Empire Strikes Back was released in theaters!

Now consider this — the way the story goes, Prowse didn’t know that Vader was Luke’s father at this time. If you recall, the original script that the cast and crew got called for Vader to tell Luke, ”Obi-Wan killed your father.” It was only before they shot the scene that Lucas told Mark Hamill what was really going down, and James Earl Jones dubbed in the real dialogue later on.

So was Prowse smarter than anyone let on? Or perhaps the crazy attention-starved actor was just making stuff up as he went, thinking people would forget by the time the sequels came out.

Or.. what if…

Lucas got wind of this, and was all like “HEY! THAT MOTHERFUCKER IS MAKING UP– Hey… wait a sec… that’s not such a bad idea… Kasdan! Break out the typewriter, take this down!”

Wild stuff.

This guy is clearly a time traveler, and an awesome one at that. Forget that fag from the Chaplin film, if I was a time traveler the first thing I would do is run my mouth off about spoilers and get fanboys all in a tizzy. “Great, we finally get a real time traveler, and she’s a dick.”
