‘Resident Evil’ Reboot Casts Zach Cherry, Kali Reis, Johnno Wilson

Zach Cherry, Kali Reis and Johnno Wilson are the latest additions to the cast of Sony Pictures and Zach Cregger’s reboot of Resident Evil. The horror franchise reboot is set to be a tribute to the original Capcom games, featuring new characters and a fresh perspective. Directed and co-written by Cregger, the movie will also star Austin Abrams as the lead. Plot details have been kept to a minimum, though filming is set to begin in October in Prague.

Zach Cherry of Severance fame, Kali Reis from True Detective and Johnno Wilson from I Love That for You, have been added on the cast list for Resident Evil. This movie, a collective effort of Sony Pictures and Zach Cregger, is a reboot of a highly popular horror franchise.

Austin Abrams, acclaimed for his role as a homeless drug addict in Cregger’s Weapons earlier this year, is heading the feature. It promises to be a far cry from previous interpretations, aiming instead to be a tribute to the original Capcom video games, with an entirely new set of characters.

Zach Cregger is helming the director’s chair and has penned the script alongside Shay Hatten, known for his work in John Wick: Chapter 3 and Chapter 4.

As for the plot, no details have been revealed. However, key aspects will revolve around a clumsy courier, a mysterious package, mutated creatures, and a corporate conspiracy.

Zach Cherry’s role will see him portraying a scientist at the hospital, whereas Kali Reis, originally written for a male, will bring an ex-military character to life. Johnno Wilson’s role, however, remains a mystery.

The film will kick off shooting by mid-October in Prague and will hit the cinemas on September 18, 2026, through Sony Pictures. Constantin Film is producing and co-financing.

Zach Cherry received an Emmy nomination for his role as Dylan George in Severance. Amazon’s Fallout and movies such as Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings include his performance. He will also feature in TriStar’s upcoming comedy, The Breadwinner.

Kali Reis, a professional boxer turned actress, gained fame with her role opposite Jodie Foster in HBO’s True Detective, earning Emmy, Critics Choice and Golden Globe nominations. Her forthcoming projects include Amazon/MGM’s Mercy, Apple TV+’s 12 12 12, and Castle Rock Entertainment’s Wind River: Rising.

The Groundling Theatre alumnus, Johnno Wilson, is known for his comedy. His appearances include Peacock’s Twisted Metal, and Showtime’s I Love This For You, and episode from Curb Your Enthusiasm.
