– James Marsden recently spoke about his excitement and anticipation to reprise his role as Cyclops in the upcoming film, Avengers: Doomsday.
– Having appeared as Cyclops in three X-Men films, Marsden notes the role as one that significantly established his acting career, describing his return as a “homecoming” and a “blast”.
– Other actors from X-Men, including Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, and Rebecca Romijn, are also announced to return in Avengers: Doomsday, which is set for release on December 18, 2026.
In a revealing dialogue with Vanity Fair, James Marsden shared his emotions about returning to his on-screen comic book persona, Cyclops, in the forthcoming blockbuster, Avengers: Doomsday.
“Putting on the superhero outfit again feels like a battle against time, but I’m thrilled,” he mused. “For 20 years, I’ve heard the question ‘When are you returning as Cyclops?’ It feels like being part of something massive.”
As he further communicated, “In theory, I’m not even supposed to be alive anymore. However, I may prove them wrong. I foresee some struggles with fitting into the superhero costume if they were to ask me a few years down the line. Nonetheless, it’s been an exhilarating journey. To be honest, it feels like a warm reunion to the role which made me prominent in the acting world. Acting in that first major project was a game-changer for me. I feel a special connection to this loved comic book character, and revisiting the role brought back those feelings.”
Marsden’s portrayal of the Marvel superhero spanned three X-Men instalments, beginning with the first instalment in 2000, followed by sequels in 2003’s X2: X-Men United, and 2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand. However, his character was written off in the last film, making his return even more anticipated.
Additional cast members from the X-men franchise that will once again share the screen in the eagerly awaited Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movie include the iconic Patrick Stewart reprising his role as Professor X, Ian McKellen coming back as Magneto, and Rebecca Romijn returning as Mystique.
Glad to hear James Marsden is coming back as Cyclops. Always thought he didn’t get enough screen time in the earlier movies.
