Actor Jeremy Renner has disclosed that he turned down the opportunity to return to the Disney+ series Hawkeye for a second season due to a significant cut in his pay. This offer, Renner states, came after a serious snowplow accident that almost took his life and required extensive recovery. The actor’s remarks were addressed to Disney’s “penny pinchers,” stating he declined to work twice as hard for half the pay. While a Disney insider refuted the claims, no specific details were provided.

Jeremy Renner Snubs Hawkeye Season 2 Due to Disney+’s Pay Cut Post-Accident

– Jeremy Renner revealed that he turned down a role in the second season of Disney+’s Hawkeye after being offered half the salary he received for season one.
– The actor stated that he felt insulted by the lower offer, especially after recovering from a severe snowplow accident, and emphasized his issue was with the “penny pinchers” at Disney, not Marvel.
– While Renner expressed his love for the character and willingness to return if paid the same as his first-season salary, a Disney insider reportedly disputed his claims without elaborating. It remains uncertain whether Renner may make a future return to Marvel.

Jeremy Renner is sharing his reasons for turning down a second season of Disney+’s Hawkeye. He states that he was offered only half of his initial salary from the first season by Disney’s “penny pinchers”.

Renner further explained that this reduced offer came following a traumatic snowplow accident in 2023 that almost cost him his life and took several months of intense rehab to recover from. This added a metaphorical salt to his physical wound.

Whilst speaking on the High Performance sports podcast, a clearly upset Renner stated, “They asked me to return for season two, but for half the money. I thought, ‘I’d have to work twice as hard for half the pay — dedicating eight months of my time. Why should I do it for half the pay? What’s the rationale, do they think I’m worth half now because of my accident?’ Is that why they want to halve my earnings from the first season?”

A Disney spokesperson denied Renner’s allegations to The Hollywood Reporter but did not provide any details.

Renner continued, “This isn’t about Marvel, it’s these Disney accountants. I was insulted by their offer and told them as much. We weren’t able to reach an agreement. I still have a soft spot for the character and would love to return, but I had to stand my ground. I didn’t ask for a pay rise, just the same amount as the first season. It was a bit disheartening that they couldn’t meet me there, but it’s okay. My body is probably grateful that I’m taking a break now.”

Generally, actors can expect a salary raise for the following seasons of a TV series. The initial season of Hawkeye launched in 2021 and received excellent reviews, securing a 92 percent positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes with an 88 percent audience score. The show also saw consistent growth in stream ratings during its five-episode run, climaxing with 938 million minutes of watch time during Christmas week alone. It remains uncertain whether Renner will be reappearing in any future Marvel releases. He wasn’t listed in the cast for Avengers: Doomsday, although more announcements are expected.
