A Disturbance in the Verse
Seems our dear Whedon has decided that his vision of Wonder Woman does not meet studio schlock requirements. I really wish our guy could get some traction. His fans are desparate for the next big… See below pulled from IMDB.
Whedon Quits Wonder Woman Movie
Buffy The Vampire Slayer creator Joss Whedon has quit as writer and director of the forthcoming Wonder Woman movie over “creative differences.” Whedon signed up to adapt the popular comic book and 1970s TV show for the big screen in May, but has severed ties with the project after failing to agree to a script with the film’s producers. He writes on his website, “You (hopefully) heard it here first: I’m no longer slated to make Wonder Woman…I had a take on the film that, well, nobody liked. Let me stress first that everybody at the studio and Silver Pictures were cool and professional. We just saw different movies, and at the price range this kind of movie hangs in, that’s never gonna work. It happens all the time. I don’t think any of us expected it to this time, but it did.”

Personally, I don’t think Cobie Smulders would have made a good Wonder Woman… but what do I know?
I also think Firefly was overrated. <ducking>
Woot! Way to post, Bombella!
These were my views:
Wow, a real shame. They probably hated all his character-based ideas and want something a lot more terrible, like Fantastic Four. Or Daredevil. Or Elektra. Or Ghost Rider. (come on, you know we don’t need to see it to know it sucks golf balls. The commercial features a mugging cameo by Peter Fonda for god’s sake.)
Also, it’s a sad thing that both Elektra and Superman Returns put such emphasis on character and yet still they did not work. (Elektra actually has very little action – it’s more a character piece about an assassin trying to determine where on the side of good/evil she belongs and her relationship with a young girl she’s supposed to kill/protect). So studios point to movies like that and say they didnt work because there wasn’t enough generic, mindless action or enough winking, smarmy dialogue to make grandma elbow little timmy with delight. Never mind that there were a hundred other indicators and that there never, ever will be a forumula for why some of these things work or do not work (but hollywood has to pretend they’re making informed decisions. There are stockholders to answer to. It’s all a day at the track and every movie is just a horse.)
So Whedon’s style and a big-budget popcorn flick certainly do not mesh well (Serenity) in a studio’s eyes. This is a shame. Perhaps it will fall into the competent (please read sarcasm) hands of Kevin Smith or Brett Ratner. You know, the greats.
To which darkhugh responded:
There’s sooooooo much more to it than that. Something REALLY weird happened, and we may never know the truth. WB announced that they bought a Wonder Woman “spec” off two unknown writers the day before. Google it for more info.
