Cartoon of the Week: Galaxy Jazz
Sorry the original cartoon slated for today was the Mork and Mindy Fonz hour, but that video seems to be no longer available.
This is one of my favorite animated series of all time. Highly stylized, extremely unique, and yet made with enough Western influence that it is accessible to American audiences. It’s digestible anime – a hip noir western set in the future.
How is that for a genre bender? If you never saw it, you’re missing out.

I’ve never seen it but some day, some how, I’ll give it a shot… but I typically have a hard time enjoying anime.
That’s because most anime doesn’t subscribe to western storytelling. Don’t get me wrong, there is great anime out there – but often the pacing is very slow and the concepts are truly bizarre. Not to mention the terrible voice-over acting.
Not so with Bebop, though one character, the girl named “Ed,” could be considered something of a Jar-Jar at times.
One of the best episodes – “Pierre LeFoux,” strictly for action. If you can watch them in order, it’s really the best way to go.
