Tom Holland experienced a mishap on the British set of Spider-Man: Brand New Day last Friday, as substantiated by The Hollywood Reporter. An injury, thought to be a mild concussion, will keep Holland off the set for a couple of days.
Those close to the issue indicated that Sony, the company behind the movie, would hold a meeting on the following Monday to discuss the course of action in progressing with the project. No other member of the cast or crew reportedly sustained any injuries.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is potentially the most crucial movie in Sony’s future lineup. Its predecessor, Spider-Man: No Way Home released in 2021, holds the record for being Sony’s top-grossing movie, amassing $1.91 billion. The movie before that, Far From Home, marked the first Spider-Man movie to cross the $1 billion threshold, and was the second movie overall by Sony, after the James Bond film Skyfall, to achieve this milestone.
Of equal significance is how this film impacts Marvel Studios. In collaboration with Sony, they co-produce the movie. It is their only production until Avengers: Doomsday, slated for a December 2026 release.
The new Spider-Man film comes from Destin Daniel Cretton, taking over the directorial reigns from Jon Watts who directed the previous three Spider-Man movies featuring Holland. Alongside Holland, the movie features Marvel veterans Mark Ruffalo (The Hulk) and Jon Bernthal (The Punisher). Favorites like Zendaya and Jacob Batalon are reprising their roles. Sadie Sink from Stranger Things and Tramell Tillman from Severance are new additions, whereas Michael Mando reprises his role as The Scorpion, which he first portrayed in Holland’s inaugural Spider-Man film, 2017’s Homecoming.
The expected release date for Spider-Man: Brand New Day is July 31, 2026.
Hope Tom makes a full recovery soon. His health should definitely come first before any filming.
