The Hollywood Reporter confirms the news. The movie, which boasts a wide-ranging cast and is intended to launch a potential new franchise for Cavill, is now set to commence filming early next year.

Highlander, the highly anticipated movie starring Henry Cavill, is scheduled to enter the main production phase this month. However, due to an injury Cavill suffered during pre-production, the project has now been postponed until 2026, according to an official confirmation from The Hollywood Reporter.

There has not been any detailed information regarding Cavill’s injury. The setback comes just as the star-studded cast was getting finalized for the prominent film set to begin shooting in the next few weeks. The revised plan targets the commencement of filming early next year.

Chad Stahelski, who has been working on this project for almost ten years, is directing the iconic long-awaited project. Initially, Lionsgate was in charge of production, but the production helm has since been handed over to Amazon MGM Studios.

The refreshed version of the immemorial 1980s film, featuring undying warriors, boasts a remarkable cast. Alongside Cavill, other well-known names include Russell Crowe, Dave Bautista, Marisa Abela, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, and Max Zhang.

Cavill, 42, has been rigorously preparing for this project for several months, hinting at some exciting sword sequences during CinemaCon in 2024. He said, “You might have seen me handle a sword before, but you haven’t seen everything yet.”

The original Highlander starred Christopher Lambert and Sean Connery, and haloed a series of sequels and a television show. This modern rendition has a screenplay crafted by John Wick: Chapter 4 writer Michael Finch. Having already captivated a global audience with his portrayal of Superman in Zack Snyder’s DC cinema, Cavill anticipates using Highlander as a stepping stone to launch yet another successful franchise.
