– The larger 10-year vision for the DC universe includes not only films but also TV projects, with the DC franchise increasingly integrating with consumer products, games and experiences.

Robert Pattinson’s busy schedule continues with the anticipation of Matt Reeves’ sequel to The Batman planning to start filming in spring, Warner Bros. Discovery has announced. The letter to shareholders on Thursday stated that the second part of The Batman is scheduled to begin production next year, targeting a cinema release on 1st October, 2027. The film’s script was completed by Reeves in June.

The first DC movie of the series, which premiered in 2022, was a box office sensation, raking in more than $770 million worldwide. Pattinson took on the title role and his expected reprisal in the second part will take him back to Gotham City. This year he’s been engaged in shooting major productions such as Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey and Denis Villeneuve’s Dune 3.

In related news, James Gunn has started preparations for the next addition to the Super family, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav confirmed. The letter provided further details, stating that Gunn is set to work on Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow and Clayface, both expected in 2026, plus a new Wonder Woman movie.

In another of Gunn’s creations, Superman, with David Corenswet leading, surpassed $500 million in global box office earnings. Warner Bros. Discovery added, “DC Studio’s universe of characters is not only one of our most prized intellectual properties, but also one of the entertainment industry’s most valuable entities.”

Last year, Gunn publicly supported Reeves when fans expressed dissatisfaction with the five-year gap planned between The Batman and The Batman Part II. “Sequels commonly see gaps of 5 years or more,” argued Gunn, the DC Studios co-CEO. He cited the gaps of 7 years between Alien and Aliens, 7 years between the first two Terminators, and 13 years between Avatars among others.

He further explained, “Pattinson’s critics should ease up. Reeves should be given the time he needs to write the screenplay. He isn’t obligated to deliver merely because his film is popular. Reeves should be trusted to work at his pace.”

The company’s letter also revealed a 10-year vision for the DC universe, featuring a variety of TV projects. These include The Penguin, which has received 24 Emmy nominations and attracted nearly 20 million HBO Max subscribers. Others on the horizon are the new season of Peacemaker and Lanterns set to hit screens in 2026.

I’m excited to see Robert Pattinson back as Batman. The first one had a great vibe, so I’m curious where they’ll take the story next. 2027 feels far away though!
