In the trailer, the adolescent participants are given the instructions to continue walking “until there’s only one of you left.”.

Francis Lawrence directed the film, working from a screenplay penned by JT Mollner (Strange Darling). The film is an adaptation of King’s 1979 novel of the same name, which was first published under King’s pen name, Richard Bachman. Lawrence, Roy Lee, Steven Schneider, and Cameron MacConomy are the producers of the film.

Mark Hamill, David Jonsson, and Director Lawrence premiered the first snippets of the film during Lionsgate’s CinemaCon presentation the previous month. Renowned for his acting chops, Hamill shared with the audience his thoughts on the film. He stated that the plotline is terrifying but beneficial to get out of one’s comfort zone. Reflecting upon his character, Hamill mentions that there’s nothing more rewarding than playing the role of a villain. Being booed and hated by the crowd would validate a job well done for the actor.

Furthermore, Lawrence elaborated that he has been a fan of the original manuscript for a long time and was attracted by the striking premise. He added that the viewer could easily see themselves in the shoes of one of the boys, highlighting their empathy for the characters.
