Chris Hemsworth, renowned for his role in Furiosa:A Mad Max Saga, is all set to rule the screen in his new venture titled Subversion. This submarine thriller is to be directed by Patrick Vollrath and backed by Amazon MGM Studios.

Lorenzo di Bonaventura is the producer of this promising project under his di Bonaventura Pictures banner. The crew is planning to commence filming in Australia this fall.

Subversion has a captivating story penned by Andrew Ferguson. It’s a thrilling mix of suspense and action, often likened to “Die Hard on a submarine”. The plot follows an ex-naval commander, portrayed by Hemsworth, who is coerced by a mafia-like organization into piloting a treacherous submarine translocating illegal cargo through international waters. Seized in a high-pressure chase, Hemsworth’s character is compelled to evade obstructions and deal with dangerous hazards inside and outside the submarine.

Patrick Vollrath has previously demonstrated his knack for narratives set in restrained surroundings. His directorial debut, 7500, featured Joseph Gordon-Levitt as a pilot confined to his cockpit during a plane hijack. The director, who received an Academy Award nomination for his live-action short movie Everything Will Be Okay in 2016, is represented by Gotham Group and Davis Law Group.

Andrew Ferguson, the screenwriter of Subversion, is known for his scripts that often make it to the Black List, amassing four entries so far. His one script, Blood Rush, is currently under development at Amazon MGM.

Subversion brings Hemsworth together with Amazon MGM, with whom he is already collaborating for Crime 101. This star-studded thriller features Mark Ruffalo, Barry Keoghan, Halle Berry and Monica Barbaro along with Hemsworth. Amazon MGM promises to bring this movie to theaters in 2026. In addition to the above works, Hemsworth is also a part of the cast for Avengers: Doomsday.
