Revamped HBO Max will simply be called MAX; New Game of Thrones Spin-off and Harry Potter Series Coming
Yup, they finally did it. MAX will be the new flagship streaming service from Warner Bros. Discovery debuting May 23rd, replacing the HBO Max currently in service. With its new name and pricing options, MAX promises to be a major player in the world of streaming, but it’s the new programming that’s really getting people excited.
At the forefront of the new programming is the highly anticipated “Game of Thrones” prequel, “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Night.” Set 100 years before the events of the original series, the new show will follow the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall and his traveling companion, Egg. With Succession wrapping up, Greg the Egg will at least live on in this companion… kidding!
But it’s not just “Game of Thrones” that’s generating buzz for MAX. The streaming service has also announced a new “Harry Potter” TV series that will run for 10 years. This “multi-season, live-action” series will feature an all-new cast as young wizards Harry, Ron, and Hermione, and will cover all seven books. Controversially, J.K. Rowling will serve as a producer on the series despite her outspoken anti-trans views. The head of HBO and Max Content, Casey Bloys, sidestepped the controversy, saying, “We’re very comfortable” working with her.
In addition to these two massive franchises, MAX is also bringing fans a new animated “Gremlins” series from Joe Dante, featuring an all-star voice cast including Sandra Oh and Bowen Yang. There are also new DC spin-offs, including “The Penguin” from “The Batman” and a series set in the “Conjuring” universe.
