James Mangold and Dave Filoni Working on New Star Wars Movies
Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy has revealed her plans for the future of Star Wars, with three new movies in the works from directors James Mangold, Dave Filoni, and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.
Mangold, known for directing films such as Logan and Ford v Ferrari, will take on a Star Wars movie set in the deep past, exploring the origins of the Force. In an interview with Empire, Mangold described his project as a “Biblical epic,” and stated that he was excited to explore the mythology of the Star Wars universe. Could this be something more aligned with the Knights of the Old Republic??
Filoni, an executive producer and creative guide on The Mandalorian and other Star Wars series, will helm a movie set in the present, acting as a climactic event for current series such as The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and the upcoming Ahsoka. Filoni is known for his work on animated Star Wars series such as The Clone Wars and Rebels, and is seen by many fans as a natural choice to transition into live-action filmmaking.
Considering we’ve had numerous announcements of Star Wars films over the years that have either died on the vine or are in some creative hell, it’s hard to get too excited until there are more details. Still, it’s good to have at least some plan for Star Wars movies, even if we’re not entirely confident in the leadership.
