Angelina Jolie is in talks to play a Disney villain. The 34-year-old mother-of-six is said to be on the verge of signing on to play Maleficent, the evil fairy, in a live-action remake of Sleeping Beauty. Tim Burton is reportedly directing the film. The original animated movie was released in 1959. Maleficent was the wicked fairy who cast a spell on the princess Aurora, causing her to prick her finger and sleep for 100 years. Disney has refused to comment on the casting rumors but last week, the studio confirmed it was working on a new Sleeping Beauty story. They have hired screenwriter Linda Woolverton, who penned Tim Burton’s recent Alice in Wonderland remake, to rewrite the story from Maleficent’s point of view.
