I Don’t Really Care About The Beatles: Rock Band

The Beatles: Rock Band

Soon it will be Beatlesmania with the re-mastered catalog being released to CD and a new music video game, The Beatles: Rock Band, hitting stores, and I’m dreading it. It’s not that I hate the Beatles, I just don’t think they’re the greatest band of all time. So the idea of playing a game where I have to play their songs, watch their animated bodies and “live their lives” is not appealing to me in the slightest. Though for the record, I love Ringo Starr but that has everything to do with the awesomeness that is Caveman.

It’s also problematic that The Beatles: Rock Band is only Beatles songs. Half of the fun of Rock Band is mixing up your favorite songs, switching genres and artists so that everybody gets to enjoy their personal songs, but the Beatles isn’t compatible with any of the other Rock Band content. So no, you can’t go from All You Need is Love to Eye of the Tiger, and that’s just lame. This just seems like bad business, as I know some folks who are picking up this game with the intention of playing the other Rock Band songs and they will have to pick up the other games to do so.

So instead, I’m excited more for LEGO: Rock Band which will let me finally belt out “The Final Countdown” and Queen songs, as well as being exportable to Rock Band/2, so I can make one killer set list. The game, not so much, but the songs for sure.

So what do you think? Am I alone in the way I’m looking at The Beatles:Rock Band? Are you going to pick it up?
