Blades of Glory, Weeds: Season 1, Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice

Saw these three recently…Spoiler at very end with plenty of warning.

Blades of Glory

I wasn’t going to see this..then I kept hearing good things.
Cybergosh insisted it was great and even though we rarely see eye to
eye on films, I gave it a try.  I’m glad I did.  I had a smile on my
face for 90 minutes. This is almost as good as “Talladega.”   I still think “Anchorman” sucks so bad..but whatever.

This is pure formula… very predicable, but who cares…had fun.  And it is great to see Will Arnett and Amy Poehler on screen together.  Jenna Fischer, James Gunn’s wife is very good..underutilized if anything.  I’ve seen her do
more comic material (“Lollilove”) and she is pretty funny.  Hopefully
she’s able to demonstrate that in her next film.  See this film..very

Weeds: 1st Season
A friend recommended this Showtime series.  The following comments in
no way reflect what I think of my friend’s taste in film and TV.  It
is simply an opinion.

This is one of the worst piece of shit series ever!!! Â Casting is
absolutely horrendous.  The writing is another case of a cable network
thinking, “hmmm, what alternative lifestyle /Â Â unique career can we
exploit this time?  We already covered the mafia, undertakers,
sluts…wait..I know!!  A white single mom pot dealer!!! We’ll make
millions!!”  Fuck you.

I made it to the third episode and returned both discs back to
Netflix.  I’m not wasting my time.

Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice

This is the type of film that is significant for the impact it had in
its time.  And it should be respected for its exploration of sexual
mores of the late sixties.  This was rare for American cinema of the
time.  So it should be seen for this reason.  However, I feel it has
aged a bit and may alienate some audiences.

As far as the acting goes, I really liked Elliot Gould, Dyan Cannon
and Natalie Wood.  Robert Culp on the other hand…seemed out of
place.  His acting seems old school compared to the other three.  But
speaking of Natalie Wood…

No wonder she produced this perfect specimen:

I did have a question though for those who’ve seen it….

What do you make of the ending?  What was Mazursky saying by not
having them all sleep together?

I’m glad you liked Blades!  Best ending ever!

Hunh… Weeds is kinda thick (no pun intended, but how can you avoid it), but it does get better. I kinda enjoyed it. Kevin Nealon is the best part of the whole thing, though. And it’s just not as funny as it could be, through and through. But I didn’t hate it.

I did hate Dreamgirls, tho. Eddie Murphy and Jennifer Hudson were great, but Beyonce pointedly was NOT great and the movie was boooooring.

Haven’t seen Blaze. Maybe you guys are talking me into it. Really wanna see Hot Fuzz, tho.

I have a copy of Hot Fuzz coming to me in the mail from UK dvd, so let’s have a watching party at my place.

As for Weeds, I keep hearing from people who love it, and that it’s gotten better — so I want to give it every bit of credit and give it another chance.  But while I dont agree it’s the worst piece of shit ever, I will say that I just didn’t enjoy the first five episodes.  I’d tuned in when it first aired but stopped taping it.

My problem is that it just all felt a little flat, and I didn’t really like any of the characters.  But I’ll give it another chance, since many series take at least one season to really find its feet.

The 2nd and 3rd seasons of most shows are usually the best.

If you want an original and interesting Showtime series, rent DEXTER.  Very engrossing and with an amazing lead actor/character.  Not for everyone, but certainly interesting and far more charming than you could ever think.

LOL I JUST MET ROBERT CULP YESTERDAY and he paid me some very nice compliments about my acting which made me feel awesome.  (He watched me record for about 20 minutes) So cool!

I would love to rent Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice – always wanted to see it.

I pray to god you bought that and are going to wait to enjoy that dvd AFTER you have the full blown experience of this in a theater.  Because, if not, if you are going to deny yourself the big screen and big sound that this film DEMANDS…you are cheapening the experience times 100.  You are throwing away what is now the official best film of the year as far as i’m concerned.  This film needs to punch you in the face in a big loud darkened theater.  If you are half the fan you say you are then PLEASE go out and support this masterpiece the right way before you pop that thing in your deck.

  5. Junktape says:

    LOL, you’re silly.

  6. Cybergosh says:

You are if you do not listen.  Especially as a fan of these guys – you should support the film in theaters.

You will not spend a better 11 bucks this year going out.

    Snap out of it, man!

What the hell is wrong with you!?!?!
