Pan’s Labyrinth

Very brief review here… don’t even call it a review. Just a few comments…

Amazing achievement… incredible effects…perfect casting. I wish I knew a little more about the Spanish Civil War because obviously Ophelia’s journey is a metaphor for the resistance. And I felt that I was searching for more parallels. And wish the parallels were more clear… does Ophelia’s fantasy world represent Mercedes’ reality? Almost. Does the faun represent the captain? Almost. There are too many “almosts” in this film. Obviously the morals…to question authority and disobedience is not always a bad thing…. is perfect because all fairy tales always punish those who disobey. Great idea…I just wish that the film was more black and white. But I guess fairy tales are always black and white and Del Toro wanted to make the antithesis.
