From DigitalBits…

So… you remember how we said that for every piece of good DVD news this week,

this morning. Yes… Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner is FINALLY, officially, coming
to DVD. It’s going to be coming to HD-DVD. And it’s going to be coming to
Blu-ray Disc as well. This is real… it’s happening… and it’s going to be
very, very cool.

Stay for the credits

We certainly don’t need to tell Chris this, but when you go to see X-Men: The Last Stand this weekend, and we know you will, make sure to stick around for something beyond the credits. There’s much more detail than that, but it’ll probably be akin to getting punched in the face after getting your nuts kicked in for 2 hours.

Numbskulls

It’s finally upon us… the trailer for NICOLAS CAGE’S GHOST RIDER. Is this a pet project?

To me, it looks like Daredevil and Elektra, and interestingly enough, I think it bows in that same superhero death knell time period of February. You be the judge.

I also think the girl is not that hot.

An Introduction

Pathology of my “geek streak”:

Ground zero was six years old, the year Star Wars came out. It hit me like a diamond bullet, and my life was forever changed. Years went by, and large dollops of additional science fiction and horror films, video games, science fiction novels and anime were added to the mental stew.

I never grew out of my toys. I’m into the hard stuff now, Japanese robots and monsters. At this point they take up almost all of my closet space. Friends come over and ask why my clean clothes are neatly folded and stacked up on the floor. I tell them they don’t want to know.

I’ve written quite a bit about the toys. Put my name into a search engine and 90% of the hits will have to do with products manufactured for grade-school children. This is something I am dreading once I start doing online dating. Once the lucky girl gets to the point where she knows my real name, it will go into Google, and within seconds I will be on her ignore list.

Occasionally, I attend conventions. Most of my time spent there is spent hunting for merchandise, punctuated by brief sessions where I simply pause and glare at my fellow convention goers. I consider myself a casual geek, a “dabbler,” a different species from these hardcore fanfolks.

I think another Jersey boy summed up my feelings about these events when he said, “I hate people, but I love gatherings.” I keep going, though. Through the magic of the internet, you’ll be coming to some of these conventions with me. Maybe I’ll even get some pictures of these interesting mutations when their backs are turned.

TV was a big part of my life once, but not any more. We just weren’t looking in the same direction any more. Battlestar Galactica and The Shield make the cable fees worth it, though. And Aqua Teen Hunger Force, of course. If my TV is on, it’s usually because I’m watching a DVD or playing a video game.

I think blogs are dumb. I’m also a bit of a hypocrite.

I’m looking forward to sharing with you.

– Roger

The Pink Five Series

My favorite fan films of all time. Excellent sound design, music and production value, with a premise much funnier than it has any right to be — a valley girl has Rosencranz & Gildenstern-esque adventures set against the backdrop of the three star wars films. The first is hands-down the funniest, but each installment improves vastly in terms of effects and scope. Great stuff. Be sure to at least watch the first installment…

The Wilhelm Scream

A series of screams performed by an actor were recorded in 1951 for “Distant Drums,” a Warner Bros film. They were used for a scene where a man is bitten by an alligator. The recording was stored in the studio’s sound effects library, and has since been used in many of their films. Sound Designer Ben Burtt (Star Wars) tracked down the scream recording – which he named “Wilhelm” from a character who made the same scream in the 1953 film, “Charge at Feather River.” Ben Burtt has since placed the sound effect into almost all of his films…

Check out the history of the scream HERE

littleman.jpgGet ready because here comes the best movie ever made. Who’s with me?

How can this NOT be the funniest movie ever made? You see, Marlon, he’s a man but everybody thinks he’s a baby so he gets to get away with sucking boobies and pooping himself.

It’s going to be awesome!
