Ghostbusters 3 in serious development

I must admit, this gets me excited if only because I want to hear that theme again — but have no allusions, it sounds terrible. Bill Murray is refusing to return and the odds-on favorite to replace him seems to be Ben Stiller. As of May 2006, Ramis and Aykroyd seem determined to make this project happen. “GHOSTBUSTERS 3: HELLBENT”

Hasslehoff Video Premieres Tonight!

Much like the end of Halloween III, I just got word that Entertainment Tonight will be broadcasting the premiere of my David Hasselhoff video tonight. Apparently, they teased it earlier tonight (as in Thursday) but will show it full frontal on Friday. God help us all.

Spidey faces off against 4 villains?!

In a recent interview, ex-Marvel CEO Avi Arad, let loose the dogs of war and enhanced my excitement and erection… and by that I mean this happened:

iF: There are four villains this time, Venom, Sandman, and Green Goblin and when is the fourth going to be revealed?

ARAD: Right we have four villains. Pretty soon [we’ll reveal the fourth villain] I believe. Maybe around Comic Con we’ll reveal something and the madness will begin.

My bet’s on Lizard — since they’ve basically revealed him in 2, and Curt Connors (Dylan Baker) is in the 3rd. Read the whole interview here.

Why I Hate Fandom, Case Study #1

I’ve always felt that Star Wars fans deserved a higher ranking in the Geek Hierarchy, far above the lower groups such as Transformers fans and self-styled American otaku. But then I come across stuff like this.

Some context: author Karen Traviss writes the licensed Star Wars novels that deal with the Clone Wars. Some overly rabid fans don’t like her idea that the clone army only has three million troops. One of these fans created an atrocious CGI fan film that depicts him giving Traviss a beat-down, and when I say “atrocious,” I mean worse than Turkish Star Wars.

He put it on Youtube, hoping that the world will see the plight of he and his fellow “Talifans.” You may need to register to view the video because of its “adult” nature, but while you’re there please take the time to give this guy the mocking that he deserves.

UPDATE: Abuse him on his MySpace page, too.

SUPERMAN RETURNS (sooner)!!

Movie & TV News @ IMDb.com – Studio Briefing

‘Superman Returns’ Returns Earlier Than Expected
In an effort to take full advantage of the coming Fourth of July holiday, Warner Bros. has moved up the release of Superman Returns from Friday, June 30 to Wednesday, June 28. Some analysts further forecast that the studio will open the film with 10:00 p.m. or midnight screenings on June 27. The strategy is reportedly aimed at giving the Bryan Singer-directed film a few extra days in the clear before it has to face competition from Disney’s latest Pirates of the Caribbean sequel, Dead Man’s Chest, which opens on July 7. Superman Returns stars Kevin Spacey, Kate Bosworth, Parker Posey and newcomer Brandon Routh as the Man of Steel.

X-Movie News

Marvel’s movie mogul Avi Arad told the trade that the company’s stance was spinoffs yes, “X4″ no. “The first reaction, which we should discard, is here comes ‘X-Men 4,'” said Arad. “We’re working on ‘Wolverine,’ which is definitely a continuation, and we have a very interesting script about a young Magneto.”

Look!  Who’s on DVD!

The biggest hit show on BBC is coming to DVD and it’s worth a look…

This new update of the classic series stars Christopher Eccleston as The Doctor, the last surviving Time Lord who travels the omiverse in a phone booth called the Tardis. He befriends a young British girl names Rose (Billie Piper) who accompanies him on his journeys through time and space. Sure, it’s a BBC series with modest special effects, but this series, which has been airing on the Sci Fi channel, is one of my favorite new shows of the year. who.jpg

DanViews—X-Men

I’ve tried to write this piece for some time and have not been able to articulate properly, but here goes…

Understand that though I have a brain full of useless pop culture information, I never soaked up comic books as a kid aside from a subscription to the 80s series of Batman Detective Comics, a love for Superman based on the movies, and a few Dark Horse titles, most of them revolving around the ALIENS franchise…

So when I talk about X-men, I’m representing the average moviegoer who must rely only on the films themselves to introduce me to, and seduce me into the world of these characters.

Soul of Konami

Have you seen Pirate Baby’s Cabana Battle Street Fight 2006? Have you even heard of Pirate Baby’s Cabana Battle Street Fight 2006? You haven’t? Well, take the time to grab Pirate Baby’s Cabana Battle Street Fight 2006. It’s a 115 MB download, but it’s 12 minutes of your life you will wish you could relive over and over again. Even if you’re blind, the background music alone is worth it.

I get every movie reference stuck in there, but if someone can explain the SUPER LIVE BUS thing they will get a gold star and my undying affection.

X-Men 3: The Last Stand

This review will have mild spoilers, and I will be posting major spoilers in the comments. Consider yourself warned.

Going into this movie, I admit, I was concerned. The 52% Tomatometer rating made me wonder if Brett Ratner had wrecked what Bryan Singer had established with the first two films. There are rough spots, mainly some clunky dialogue, but overall, it’s pretty damn good. This is the X-Men film that you were waiting for.

Trailer Roundup #1

I believe any movie can be judged in 30 seconds. So here they are, the verdicts from tonights trailers preceding X-Men 3:

My Super Ex-Girlfriend – Apparently they couldn’t come up with a better title for this, but I guess they have to make sure the target market can remember what movie they’re seeing during that walk from the parking lot to the ticket booth. As dumb as it looks, it also looks like fun. Thumbs up, but I’ll save this one for a date movie.

Nacho Libre – Lucha Libre, good. Jack Black, good. Jared Hess, good. Deep down, though, I don’t feel good. Thumbs down.

Superman Returns – An cornucopia of criss-crossing crystals tells me that this is definitely a sequel to the 80s movies, at least visually. Not a lot of gayness to be seen, save for one brief shot where Luthor comes up behind Supes and jams a long sharp object into him. Thumbs up, but why is there steam in Metropolis?

The Omen – Oh, how cute, Liev Schrieber and Ol’ Flounder Face (a.k.a. Julia Stiles) have a beautful little boy. Unfortunately for them he’s SATAN. Yes, we’ve seen this movie before, but can quicker cuts, CGI, and Rosemary’s Baby’s Mom actually improve this classic? The thumb says no.

SNAKES ON A MOTHERFUCKING PLANE – The marketing folks are now hip to the gag, they’re laughing with us at the idea of snakes on a plane. As a result, this could be the first movie where the vortex of pre-release post-ironic buzz destroys it before it even hits theaters. I don’t care, though. I like snakes. Thumbs up.

The first step is admitting you have a problem…

Check out this Washington Post Article about South Korea’s latest epidemic: video game addiction. Don’t worry, though, once these poor souls finish video game rehab, there is hope for them in the form of non-interactive entertainment, like this South Korean World of Warcraft movie in development. It looks like the budget for this movie is only slightly higher than the price of a Wendy’s Value Meal, so you can rest assured that no actual leopards were harmed for those costumes.
